Everything you need to know about Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are facial aesthetic soft injectable gel based injections, which are injected into the skin. They are specifically designed to add volume to the face that has been lost due to aging, to help create beautiful nose shapes, to reduce the appearance of  fine lines and wrinkles, contour the face, revitalize the skin, smooth chins & acne scars, plum the lips, reduces mouth lines, provide fullness to earlobes, reduce lines between the eyebrows, enhances cheeks, restore youthful appearance, straighten jaw lines, etc. The treatment helps you to attain a younger look and rejuvenated appearance without surgery.

Some people break down the filler more quickly than others. Dermal fillers tend to last the longest in areas that move the least.

There are two primary groups of dermal fillers: synthetic material and naturally derived. They are biodegradable and will naturally disappear in the body. Depending on the type of filler, the effect of the treatment would last. Generally the result of the filler can last anywhere from 9-12 months; for semi-permanent or permanent fillers, the effects can last up to five years. The result of the treatment also depends upon how fast our body metabolizes the injection. Synthetic fillers are considered semi- permanent and they last much longer than the naturally-derived ones. There are reports that they have even longer-lasting results.

Dermal fillers are administered by injection. The procedure can cause minimal discomfort, but with the application of tropical anesthesia you will not feel any pain or discomfort during the treatment. Some of the fillers already contain local anesthetic which also makes the treatment tolerable. The procedure is completed within just minutes and usually requires minimal downtime for recovery. To ensure an optimal and long lasting result, post care treatment is recommended 6-12 months after your initial treatment. Results of the treatment would depend upon the doctor’s experience, technique, skill in placing the right amount of filler in exactly the right place, the needs of the patient and also the risk tolerance.

With any procedure there are certain possible risks. Some of the most common post -operative side effects of the injections are redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site.  These side effects are generally mild to moderate and will usually disappear shortly after the injection.
